What To Expect
Our trip to Elaphiti islands starts at Dubrovnik Harbour in Gruž port at 10am.
A short boat ride from Dubrovnik, three main Elaphiti islands of Kolocep, Lopud and Sipan will make your day. With no cars permitted on the islands, the natural environment has remained unspoilt and the islands’ tiny villages and old ruins make for a relaxed day of exploration. But also, they make great backgrounds for your Instagram photos.
We will visit Kolocep first as it is the closest island to Dubrovnik hiding a mesmerizing Blue cave. Here you’ll indulge in your first dip of the day. Since the cave is small, our boat will anchor in front of it, and you’ll have to jump into the water because the only way to see the Blue cave is swimming into it.
The next island on our route is Lopud, the biggest Elaphiti island dotted with traditional stone houses, but also a 15th century monastery with luxury suites and several top notch resorts. Lopud is a favourite Croatian spot for celebrities looking to escape the crowds. So don’t be surprised if you see a familiar face while sunbathing at the golden sandy beach of Sunj. The Sunj beach is very shallow so you’ll have to walk for almost a mile into the water to be fully immersed.
Next we stop on Sipan island for a lunch break and some olive oil experience. The island of Sipan is home to thousands of olive trees and the locals often joke that they have the largest number of olive trees per inhabitant in the world. So do not skip buying some olive oil or simply trying it in one of island’s many restaurants.
Finally we head over to Sikirica, a beach which is both an island and peninsula, depending on the tide. If you drove to Dubrovnik and saw a beautiful axe-shaped island, it’s Sikirca!
Sikirica (or Sjekirica) beach is located near the place called Brsecine and is named after its shape of an axe (Croatian word for axe iz Sjekira and Sjekirica means a small axe). The small beaches on thethe land side are hidden from view, which makes this spot one of the most romantic places around Dubrovnik.
Sjekirica is also pretty rocky, so it’s a great home for diverse marine life. We’ll do some snorkeling here to explore the wild underwater world before getting on the boat and returning to our Dubrovnik base.
